COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. It has affected society in several aspects of life. Due to that, many scientists and labs around the world are developing research to combat the coronavirus. The focus, in general, is on prevention, detection or cure.
Our team is also in this race. We are developing an explainable machine learning model to assist the automatic detection of acute respiratory syndromes, such as COVID-19, SARS, MERS, H1N1 and others. To do this, we are going to use clinical, laboratory and image parameters, initially with public datasets. The model should be able to offer good usability and accuracy.
Together with the Hospital das Clínicas of UFMG, considered a center of reference and excellence, we intend to evaluate the model in real cases making it useful for society. We also are in touch with researchers from Grupo de Pesquisa em Ciência de Dados e Inteligência Computacional (or Research Group in Data Science and Computational Intelligence) from Federal Institute of Northern Minas Gerais (IFNMG) and Department of Computer Science from Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP).
